Site Reconnaissance & Set-up (SRS) Officer
Location(s):
Paquibato
Role Overview
The Site Reconnaissance & Set-Up (SRS) Officer leads the technical ground-truthing and site validation phase of the reforestation cycle. The role is responsible for determining the ecological and operational suitability of project areas and, upon validation, executing a comprehensive technical setup.
This includes precise polygon surveys, boundary marking, and the mapping of all logistical features such as access routes, water bodies, and staging areas to ensure the main development team can execute planting with immediate precision.
Responsibilities:
I. Technical Site Validation & Ground Truthing
Conduct rigorous on-site assessments to validate the feasibility of reforestation, considering soil, slope, and existing vegetation.
Verify satellite-derived map data against actual field conditions to confirm the area meets project criteria.
II. Polygon & Boundary Survey
Undertake actual field surveys to delineate planting polygons for areas found suitable for reforestation.
Physically mark and record site boundaries and community-agreed borders to ensure zero encroachment during the planting phase.
III. Logistical & Feature Mapping
Map all ground features affecting execution, including existing roads, trails, camping areas, and water bodies.
Delineate routes and trails leading specifically to planting spots to optimize the movement of seedlings and personnel.
Identify and mark logistics hubs and staging areas for seedling storage and crew mobilization.
IV. Technical Operational Setup
Establish the precise take-off points and the directional alignment for staking to ensure uniform planting density and orientation.
Ensure that all physical markers and technical maps are ready for a seamless handover to the main reforestation development team.
V. Leadership, Management, and Accountability (LMA)
Set the technical standard for field reconnaissance and inspire the team toward high-precision data collection.
Oversee the daily deployment of field surveyors and ensure they are equipped with calibrated GPS and surveying tools.
Review all field data and maps for accuracy before submission, holding the team accountable for the integrity of the site setup.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science or a closely related field.
At least 2 – 3 years experience in forest management and field surveying.
Proficient in the use of GPS, mobile data collection apps, and basic GIS software for mapping and monitoring restoration plots.
Ability to assess land suitability and environmental constraints specific to tropical reforestation.
Proven ability to manage field logistics, timelines, and budgets to achieve quantitative field assessment and surveying targets.
Proven ability to LMA a field-based technical team in remote and challenging terrains.
Excellent ability to communicate technical information clearly and work collaboratively with diverse community groups and internal teams.
