Role Overview
The Site Reconnaissance & Set-Up (SRS) Associate is a field-based technical specialist responsible for the physical execution of site validation and preparation. Working directly under the SRS Officer and in coordination with the Deputy, the Associate performs the primary surveying, boundary marking, and logistical setup tasks required to transition a site from a proposal to an operationally ready reforestation area.
This is a physically demanding role that requires technical accuracy in using mapping tools and a disciplined approach to field data collection.
Responsibilities:
I. Field Surveying & Technical Execution
Conduct the physical survey of roads, trails, water bodies, and other ground features as directed by the SRS Officer.
Execute the physical marking of site boundaries and planting polygons using GPS devices, paint, and durable field markers.
Assist in the initial layout and take-off alignment for staking, ensuring all planting spots are marked according to technical specifications.
II. Data Collection & Integrity
Use mobile data collection tools (GPS, tablets) to accurately record field coordinates and site observations.
Capture geo-tagged photos of site features, boundaries, and potential obstacles for the Deputy Officer’s technical reports.
Cross-check physical markers against digital GPS points to ensure zero discrepancy in site mapping.
III. Logistical & Operational Support
Assist the Deputy Officer in setting up camping areas, temporary staging points, and seedling drop-off locations.
Assist in the clearing of access routes and trails leading to designated planting spots to ensure the development team’s safety and efficiency.
Responsible for the daily cleaning, charging, and safe transport of assigned technical gadgets and field tools.
IV. Community & Field Liaison
Maintain a professional and respectful presence when working within local communities and Ancestral Domains.
Work alongside local guides or community workers, providing clear instructions on marking and clearing tasks.
V. Accountability & Discipline
Accountable for the accuracy of every boundary marker placed and every data point recorded.
Adhere to all field safety protocols and environmental stewardship principles while operating in remote areas.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science or a closely related field.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in field-based forestry operations, land surveying, or environmental data
collection.
Basic proficiency in using handheld GPS devices and smartphone-based mapping applications.
High level of physical fitness and the ability to trek long distances in difficult terrain and varying weather conditions.
Ability to follow strict technical instructions for marking and surveying without deviation.
