Operational Analyst

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Keneco Operations Analyst supports the effective management of forestry and carbon projects by combining financial discipline with operational analytics. This role is responsible for building and monitoring operational budgets, analyzing complex datasets, and modeling biomass and carbon outcomes to guide decision-making. The Analyst identifies inefficiencies in reforestation and site management workflows, recommends process improvements, and helps deploy digital tools for operational monitoring. In addition, the role ensures compliance with environmental regulations, internal ESG standards, and carbon project requirements, while collaborating closely with field teams and leadership to align operations with business and sustainability goals.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial and Budgeting

  • Budgeting: Create budgets by working with operations managers and senior leadership to develop and present annual and quarterly operational budgets.

  • Monitor and report on budget performance: Track actual versus budgeted performance, analyze variances, and prepare detailed reports on spending and resource allocation.

  • Cost control: Identify opportunities for cost savings and develop strategies to reduce operational expenses without compromising quality or safety.

  • Forecasting and adjustments: Provide regular financial forecasts and recommend budget adjustments based on evolving market conditions, operational performance, and unexpected events.

Data & Analytics

  • Data collection and analysis: Collect, organize, and interpret large, complex datasets related to forestry operations.

  • Data modeling and forecasting: Use statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and simulations to evaluate different operational strategies and forecast the results of potential changes.

  • Support the design and deployment of digital tools (e.g., dashboard, mobile data collection apps) for operational monitoring.

Process Optimization & Technology

  • Process optimization: Evaluate current workflows for reforestation,  logistics, and site management to identify and implement efficiency improvements

  • Partner with field and operations teams to integrate technology solutions that streamline workflows and reporting.


Compliance & Monitoring

  • Compliance: Ensure operational procedures comply with environmental regulations, internal ESG policies and standards, sustainability commitments, and carbon project requirements.

  • Conduct regular risk assessments, identifying potential operational, environmental, and compliance risks, and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.

  • Reporting and communication: Prepare clear, timely reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to management and other stakeholders.

Collaboration & Field Engagement

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with foresters, field teams, logistics personnel, finance staff, and leadership to align operations with company goals. 

  • Participate in periodic field visits to understand operational realities and ensure recommendations are practical for implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Forestry, Operations Research, Management Engineering, Statistics, Business Analytics, Business Administration, Finance or Environmental Sciences.

  • Experience in forestry operations, natural resource management, or a similar analytical role is preferred.

  • Direct experience with or exposure to forestry or natural resource operations, research, or markets. 

Technical skills:

  • Financial analysis: Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and budget management skills.

  • Data analysis: Proficiency with data analysis tools and software, including advanced Excel functions, SQL, and data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.

  • Budgeting software: Experience with financial planning software or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is highly desirable.

  • Forestry software: Familiarity with specialized forest management or inventory software is desired.

  • Statistical modeling: Ability to apply statistical analysis and predictive modeling to complex datasets.

Soft skills:

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: Excellent ability to analyze complex data sets, identify problems, and develop practical solutions.

  • Attention to detail: Exceptional attention to detail for data accuracy and process integrity, especially when dealing with financial data.

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively present findings and budget reports to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, coordinating with multiple departments to gather input for the budget.

  • Critical thinking: The ability to evaluate budgetary performance and identify any discrepancies or opportunities.

  • Adaptability: The flexibility to adjust the budget and strategy in response to changing financial conditions.

  • Continuous learning: A proactive mindset to stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and emerging analytics techniques.
