Role Overview

As a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Officer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation systems, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of our projects. You will be responsible for designing and implementing robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks applicable to conservation and livelihood projects and programs, collecting and analyzing data, and generating valuable insights to inform programmatic decisions. Your efforts will directly contribute to enhancing the impact and sustainability of our initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and Evaluation Frameworks: Develop comprehensive monitoring and evaluation frameworks for our projects focused on forest conservation, land restoration, and sustainable livelihood. Collaborate with the KenEco project team to define clear indicators and outcomes, enabling effective tracking of progress.

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Implement data collection methods, both quantitative and qualitative, to gather relevant project information. Utilize advanced data analysis techniques to derive insights and draw actionable conclusions.

  • Performance Monitoring: Regularly track project performance against established indicators and targets. Identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations to the KenEco leadership team.

  • Learning Initiatives: Facilitate learning events and knowledge-sharing sessions with the Keneco organization and local partners to promote a culture of continuous learning. Share best practices and success stories across the organization.

  • Impact Assessment: Facilitate the conduct of impact evaluation to assess the long-term effectiveness of our projects on partner communities. Use and share evaluation findings to refine project strategies.

  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare comprehensive and visually appealing reports for internal and external stakeholders, showcasing project outcomes and impact. Ensure that project data is accurately documented and easily accessible.

  • Capacity Building: Orient and train project staff on monitoring and evaluation methodologies and tools, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making.

  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Collaborate with external partners, donors, and stakeholders to gather data and share evaluation results. Build strong relationships to enhance our organization's reputation as a leader in monitoring and evaluation practices.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences, Statistics).

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning within the context of development projects or nonprofit organizations.

  • Proficiency in data collection methods, statistical analysis software, and data visualization tools.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to draw meaningful insights from complex data sets.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences effectively.

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple MEL activities simultaneously.

  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset, with a passion for working in diverse and inclusive environments.

  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical and responsible data management practices.

  • Knowledge of climate issues and sustainable development goals is required.
